ABOUT

IMG_0057.Jpeg

Climbing has been so much more to me than a job or a hobby. It has changed my life and taken me places I'd never have imagined. I fell in love with climbing when I took my first trip outdoors at Wintours Leap in the Wye Valley and it has been a part of me ever since. From then on I have worked hard to turn this love into a life.

My approach to teaching is to provide an environment that is centred around the experience rather than the achievement, where the learning itself can be as, if not more, rewarding than the success by feeding on curiosity and enjoyment. I believe that a high level of ability will naturally follow on from this. However my main focus is to support the enjoyment, natural development, sense of freedom and self knowledge that in turn provides confidence and a positive psychological and physiological influence to your climbing and beyond.

INDOOR

Climbing indoors began for me in 2011, not long after I started to teach indoor climbing and since then have worked at a number of indoor climbing centers on a freelance basis, learning many different approaches and techniques for teaching a variety of different ages and abilities.

OUTDOOR

QUALIFICATIONS

I have climbed outdoors at a variety of locations around the UK, mainly in the Lower Wye Valley and Forest of Dean area. I have also had the opportunity to climb in places such as Wadi Rum, Jordan and the Alps, Italy. I am experienced with both trad and sport climbing on single and multi pitch routes.

"Nathan is a great teacher - very patient and attentive! He quickly got me versed in the basics of climbing, and from there was able to build a tailored programme based on my specific strengths and weaknesses. I'd recommend Nathan to anyone looking to learn, or improve their climbing ability."
